Privacy Policy

WeldFolio is a weld portfolio and grading tool used by welding classes to track student work, feedback, and participation. This page describes what information WeldFolio collects, why, and who it's shared with. It applies to students, teachers, and schools using WeldFolio at any school running the app.

WeldFolio was built around a "Privacy ID" system specifically to avoid collecting more about students than the app actually needs — a school can run WeldFolio without a single student ever typing their real name or email address into it.

Information from students

DataWhy we have it
NameShown to the teacher in the roster and gradebook. A teacher can turn this off entirely ("Privacy Mode") so no real names are stored at all.
Privacy ID (a 5-digit number)Login username. On its own it doesn't identify a student.
PasswordLogin. A teacher-assigned password is plaintext (so the teacher can hand it out); a password a student sets themselves is hashed and not visible to anyone, including the teacher.
Google account IDOnly for students who choose "Continue with Google" to sign in. We store Google's opaque account identifier so we recognize the student next time — we do not store the email address or name Google provides, even though our sign-in request technically receives them.
Class/period, skill level, language preferenceGroups students correctly and renders the app in English or Spanish.
Weld photos, AI-generated grading feedback, self-ratings, reflections, teacher scores/commentsThis is the core of the app — a portfolio of a student's weld work and how it was graded.
CREW scores (daily communication/responsibility/engagement/work-ethic ratings)An optional, teacher-enabled participation score. Visible only to the teacher who scores it and to that student.
Portfolio project entries (photos + typed answers)Responses to project prompts a teacher writes.

Information from teachers and schools

Who we share information with

WeldFolio does not sell or share data with advertisers, and does not run any analytics or tracking scripts on the site — there are none, by design.

What we don't collect

How long we keep it, and deletion

Data stays as long as a school's account is active. A teacher can remove a student at any time, which deletes that student's submissions, CREW scores, and portfolio entries along with the account. A school administrator can deactivate or remove a school's account and its data entirely.

A note on student age

WeldFolio is designed for use in a classroom under a teacher's supervision, not for independent signup by children outside that context. The Privacy ID system, optional name collection, and refusal to store email addresses are deliberate choices to minimize personal information collected from students. Schools remain responsible for complying with applicable student privacy laws (such as FERPA) for their own use of the app.
